Squeaky Clean SunButter Jars
By Rachel Hayden
Empty SunButter jars are perfect for storing small items like craft materials or small toys. You could even use it as a vase or as a pencil holder! When recycling a SunButter jar, how do you get that last little bit of SunButter out? Here’s how I do it as quickly as possible.
- Start with a nearly empty Sunbutter jar, with about 1-2 tablespoons of SunButter in the bottom.
- Add hot, cooked oatmeal and safe chocolate chips (my favorite!) or other mix-ins like raisins. Stir well, making sure to get as much SunButter mixed into the oatmeal as you can. Use caution to not burn yourself, as the sides of the jar can be very warm.
- After eating the oatmeal, rinse with warm water, scraping leftover oats/SunButter out. This is a perfect time to use a spray nozzle if you’ve got one on your kitchen sink to spray the inside of the jar.
- Fill with hot, soapy water. Put the lid on and give it a good shake. Use a soapy scrub brush or abrasive sponge to get the really stubborn residue out.
- Rinse and dry!
Now your jar is ready for your craft project, storage, or a toddler who loves practicing with lids!
