May Day Craft for Kids
May Day is right around the corner. Surprise your neighbor by leaving a May Day basket filled with flowers or your favorite (peanut-free!) treats! Looking for an easy May Day basket craft? You’re in the right place!
You will need:
An empty SunButter jar, scissors, ribbon, hot glue or tape, colored paper, and materials with which to fill your basket. We used straws/sticks, markers, SunButter On-The-Go cups [Editor’s Note: pouches shown are no longer available], flower seed packets and some candy! Many people prefer filling their jars with fresh cut flowers.
Instructions:
1. Begin with a clean, empty SunButter jar. Click here for tips on cleaning out a near-empty jar.
2. Place May Day gifts within jar.
For our gifts, we made butterflies and candies on straws/sticks. If you have other treats, skip to step 5.
3. For butterflies, fold colored paper in half and cut a capital “B” shape. Color on the butterfly as you like. Use glue or tape to attach candies for the butterflies’ bodies (suckers, smarties, and sixlets work well. Click here for a list of peanut-free treats.) Wait for the glue to dry. Then attach butterfly to straws/sticks.
4. In a similar manner, glue or tape SunButter On-The-Go packs, flower seed packets, or other treats to end of straws/sticks.
5. Cut ribbon to about one foot long.
6. Using glue or tape, attach ribbon to rim of jar on opposing sides.
7. Surprise a friend by leaving your “basket” on their door for May Day!
