Pass the SunButter, It’s National Nutrition Month!

March is National Nutrition Month® sponsored by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. The theme for 2017 is “Put Your Best Fork Forward.” Each of us has the tools to make healthier food choices, and focusing on small changes throughout National Nutrition Month and beyond can help develop healthy eating habits for life.

SunButter is a great source of protein, having just as much protein as the leading brand of peanut butter, but with more vitamin E and Iron. SunButter has zero trans-fats and more vitamins and minerals than nut butter. It is completely free of the top eight food allergens, including peanuts and nuts.

Initiated in March 1973 as a week-long event, National Nutrition Week became National Nutrition Month in 1980 in response to growing public interest in nutrition. “All natural” and “organic” labeled foods are a growing interest, with a 24 percent growth in sales for these categories over the past two years alone. Further, a 2014 Nielsen’s Global Health and Wellness Survey of 30,000 individuals in 60 countries found 80 percent of consumers use food to control medical issues such as diabetes, obesity, and high cholesterol.

The Nielsen Group also learned that food labels are an important guide to health choices, with 55 percent of respondents indicating they select foods based on the ingredients lists. This desire for knowledge, combined with increasing interest in buying “organic,” “natural,” “non-GMO,” and “gluten-free” products within both grocery and specialty stores means food producers need to be aware of what they are putting into their products.

SunButter is packed with delicious, nutritious roasted sunflower seeds. Offering virtually allergen-free nutrition, SunButter fits into just about everyone’s diet. It is even certified Circle U Kosher by the Orthodox Union, and all varieties of SunButter are vegan. Visit www.sunbutter.com/story to learn more!
